III.II. Nurseries

Currently, the project supports 6 forest nurseries across the island, two central and 4 specialised on selected species only. The prevailing propagation is from the seeds, but if the seeds are not available or don´t germinate or if there is the need to propagate hybrids or some distinct form, the vegetative way of propagation from cuttings is used. Annual production reaches several hundred up to more than one thousand seedlings. The seedlings are used for reforestation activities strictly in the same locality from where the seeds come from. Also, for people interested in tree plantation in home gardens the seedlings are available for free.

List of forest nurseries and responsible gardeners

  • Adeeb Abdullah, Hadibo – nursery specialised on all endangered trees, especially by cuttings if the seeds are not available or don´t germinate
  • Mona Ahmed, Qassha’ayhon – nursery specialised on most Boswellia species
  • Noh Sail, Qa’areh – nursery specialised on Commiphora ornifolia and Boswellia popoviana
  • Saleh Omar, Homhil – nursery specialised on B. elongata
  • Mohammad Shaynayhan, Taeda’ah – nursery specialised on B. bullata
  • Ahmed Issa, Terebek – nursery specialised on Dracaena cinnabari, Boswellia ameero, B. dioscoridis
