III.IV.II. Ethnobotanical trainings with certificate

Ethnobotanical trainings (with certificate) with the project team’s in-house botanists (who are permanently on-site in Socotra), Mr Ahmed Adeeb and Mr Ahmed Issa, and other experienced Socotran old men and women (Ahmed Mohammad, Mohammad Keybani, Mona Ahmed) were organized in Adeeb’s garden, where many plants are available. All teachers are excellent, trained botanists with vast knowledge about the diversity of the Socotran plants and their ethnobotanical uses and importance. These trainings included awareness activities for young local people about the traditional uses and vulnerability of Socotran plants.

These activities were in the native Socotri language predominantly, in order to maintain the cultural connection and promote the endangered language. In addition, it is important to keep the Socotri lexicon regarding plants and plant uses, for which there are often no suitable English or Arabic translations. All attendants obtained certificate.
