III.IV.V. Support in co-learning and capacity building of local experts
In 2024, Salem Hamdiah, the indigenous Socotri scientific coordinator of the project, completed his PhD study under supervision of prof. Maděra. The PhD study was completed entirely within the project, with in-kind support by Ljubljana University in Slovenia. He is the first Socotri ever to obtain a PhD in natural sciences/conservation in a European institute. The entire project team is proud of his achievement.
Also, entire local expert team has been increasing his knowledge and capacity in nature conservation, reforestation and environment protection working together to international experts. They share the knowledge achieved among the local communities in favour of nature conservation of Socotra.
